Product sales: Marketing the most valuable brand in the world as at 2022

Following my role at a gallery, print workshop, and specialty book store, and following my time working at a national book chain, I worked as a digital developer and designer for a consumer electronic product distribution company that sells one of the most valuable brands in the world.

Here’s what I learnt.

The significance of product training

I vividly recall my first few days on the job, which involved product training sessions and immersive hands-on demonstrations of the products and the value they offered. It became clear to me how a high-quality product truly fulfills its promises.

A high-quality product speaks for itself

A brand that provides products that serve as an all-encompassing solution to numerous everyday challenges, while also representing an integral extension of our personal lives, instills a profound sense of purpose among employees whose mission is to sell and promote it.

Pressure is a privilege

The modern tech industry demands essential skills and an Agile mindset. The corporate culture of the parent company influences the international partners which makes the work environment competitive, with A-level professionals.

Harnessing the power of digital workflows

An upper hand is gained by possessing the ability to design and implement automated solutions for intricate problems, thus reducing reliance on third-party processes. Success in this environment depends on agility.

Developing coding proficiency

Throughout my tenure at this distribution company, I managed over 14 web domains across various subsidiaries. This demanded a continual enhancement of my HTML, CSS, and PHP coding skills, occasionally involving server-side troubleshooting. I primarily worked with two content management systems, namely WordPress and Magento. In WordPress, I designed custom themes with a boilerplate. I also coded numerous HTML emails, managed databases, and facilitated the distribution of direct communications.

Hands-on experience with product sales and distribution models

Working with major brands provided me with a valuable insight into the significance of sales, marketing, and distribution frameworks. These frameworks enable international brands to maintain consistency in client experiences regardless of their location. Big brands standardise their store aesthetics and the approach of sales personnel as well as product placement and in-store marketing materials. The framework can easily be copied, adjusted and replicated across markets.

Pushing boundaries and self-discovery

This role stretched my capabilities and provided insights into my own limits, both mentally and physically. While burning the midnight oil daily may appear to demonstrate a strong work ethic, it can actually lead to counter-productivity and burnout. Delivering your best at work requires management of your physical and psychological resources. Time-management enables you to present your optimal self every day in a sustainable manner.
